Ryan: We’re not going to quit

Sitting at 6-7 looking up at the rest of the AFC Wild Card playoff contenders the Bills know even winning out may not be enough with three games to play. But head coach Rex Ryan maintains that their situation will not change their preparation or approach on Sundays.

“Yeah we get it. We understand what has to happen. We clearly have to win our three games. That’s a given. We know that the Jets have to lose one of the next two and then Pittsburgh has to lose two of the next three. I know there are other scenarios, but that’s pretty much it,” said Ryan.

“It’s not going to be easy. But to think that we’re going to quit that’s the wrong team. We’re not quitting. We’ve had five losses where we had the ball in our hand to go in the game and tie or win the game on the last drive of the game. This team is not quitting. We’re not giving up. We know we’ve got a tough stretch, this game here in particular going up against Washington. We know we’re going to have three tough games no doubt.

“Stranger things have happened. I’ve been around this game a long time and stranger things have happened. We know one thing for sure and that’s we’ve got to win.”

Few ESPN analysts pick Bills for playoffs

Posted by Chris Brown on September 6, 2012 – 9:38 am

Though in some circles the Bills have been a trendy AFC pick for the playoffs, most of the ESPN NFL analysts left them out of their playoff predictions for the 2012 season.

Of the 23 ESPN analysts (seems like there are 50) 22 of them picked the Patriots to win the AFC East. Hugh Douglas picked the Jets. Eight of the 23 picked the Bills as an AFC Wild Card for 2012. Those analysts were Lomas Brown, Tedy Bruschi (I’m shocked), Cris Carter, John Clayton, Herm Edwards, Chris Mortensen, Adam Schefter and Damien Woody.

Here’s the whole list of prognostications.

Herm picks Bills as AFC Wild Card

Posted by Chris Brown on June 28, 2012 – 9:13 am

ESPN NFL analyst and former Chiefs and Jets head coach Herm Edwards was asked to pick his AFC Wild Card favorite and for him it came down to two teams, the Jets and the Bills.

Edwards picked the Bills to finish ahead of the Jets in the AFC East.

“This year in the offseason they did a great job of acquiring free agents,” said Edwards of Buffalo. “I’m talking about Mario Williams and Mark Anderson. That will allow them to get to the quarterback. This offense is a very productive offense. Fitzpatrick is more like a point guard in basketball, he distributes the football. They will battle the Jets in my opinion as a Wild Card team in this division. I think New England is still good enough to win the division. I think the Bills have a chance with their schedule to win nine games and maybe get into the playoffs.

“I think the Bills have an edge offensively in this sense, they’ve been together, the Jets have a new coordinator and a new system. They want to ground and pound and that’s fine, but you still have to be able to throw the football. The Bills can throw the ball. They put you in space, they run a lot of shotgun spread offense and have skill players that can catch and run. Their offense is a little ahead of the Jets offense right now.”
