Posted by Chris Brown on September 28, 2011 – 12:01 pm

Bengals RB Cedric Benson appealed his three-game league suspension on Tuesday. Apparently there is going to be no verdict on it today (Wednesday) per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That means Benson will be eligible to play on Sunday against the Bills.

Here’s what Schefter tweeted a short time ago.

No decision on Benson

The Bengals team website is reporting that there will be no decision Tuesday from the league office regarding Cedric Benson’s appeal on a three-game suspension.

At this point it’s unclear when a decision will be handed down or if Benson will practice Wednesday with his teammates. It’s believed a decision could still be handed down by the league office later this week.

Portis works out for Bengals

Posted by Chris Brown on September 27, 2011 – 1:33 pm

According to NFL Network the Bengals worked out Clinton Portis Tuesday as they may be without starter Cedric Benson this week.

NFL Network reporter Jason LaCanfora tweeted as much today (Tuesday).

JasonLaCanfora RB Clinton Portis worked out for Bengals today. Taking a physical now. Could be signed with Cedric Benson facing a 3-game suspension

Benson is appearing before NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL league reps today in New York to appeal his three-game suspension. Even if Benson’s suspension is reduced there appears to be a good chance he’s forced to sit at least one game for an assault charge this summer.

That charge was ultimately dismissed by the courts as Benson was placed on one-year of probation.

There were also reports that the Bengals planned to work out free agent RB Larry Johnson as well.
