New name in mock for Bills

Posted by Chris Brown on March 25, 2010 – 10:50 am

Mock drafts are being posted by anyone and everyone with each passing day. The folks at the NFL Network were pretty busy with Solomon Wilcots and Charles Davis both putting out mock drafts and both did not go with a lot of the same names that have been seen in Buffalo’s slot at 9.

Wilcots went with Tennessee DT Dan Williams. Some so called experts believe Williams might be a bit of a reach at 9 after really only having one big season in college, but big men go fast. However, knowing the Dolphins at 12 need a nose tackle makes you wonder if a team would alter its line of thinking provided the player was a fit at their spot on the board.

Davis meanwhile goes with a name that I have seen just one other time for the Bills in upwards of 60-70 mocks that I’ve taken a look at. He has Buffalo taking Clemson RB C.J. Spiller.

Though head coach Chan Gailey did express the desire to add a third back to the roster in the scat back mold, I can’t see the Bills utilizing their top pick on Spiller as talented as he is with so many other more pressing holes to fill.

DT to Bills in latest mock

Posted by Chris Brown on March 11, 2010 – 1:58 pm’s Pat Kirwan recently posted his latest mock draft and for once someone doesn’t have the Bills taking a QB or OT.

Kirwan predicts that the Bills will take Tennessee defensive tackle Dan Williams. It should be noted that Kirwan has offensive tackles, Okung, Bulaga and Davis all coming off the board before the Bills are on the clock, which could lead to a pick like this.

Williams at 6’2″ 327, he’s thickly built making him a fit as a nose tackle in Buffalo’s new 3-4 system. His run defending ability is his best asset, which has to be music to the ears of Buffalo’s defensive staff. He’s built low to the ground so he’s hard to move off the line.

He hasn’t been seen this high in the draft in too many mocks, but I have seen him as high as 12. The convincing Williams needs to do is that he was not a one-year wonder. He was considered a mid-round pick until his big senior season under Monte Kiffin. His pro day is set for March 17th.

More mocks have QB to Bills

Posted by Chris Brown on February 8, 2010 – 10:20 am

I’m very quickly detecting a theme here with the mock drafts. The majority of them are picking a signal caller for Buffalo with the ninth pick.

More often than not it’s Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen as most think Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford will be taken earlier either to Washington at #4 or Cleveland at #7.’s two resident college football analysts submitted their most recent mock drafts and both have Clausen to the Bills at 9.

It’s hard to argue that Buffalo needs to shuffle the deck at QB. I’m just not convinced that QB will be the pick at 9. With a new regime in place the Bills can’t afford to miss there, and may elect to go with a more secure pick be it an OT or a DT.

Tennessee DT Dan Williams could be a worthy pick that high and would be a good fit as a 3-4 NT in Buffalo’s new defensive scheme.
