CB Van Dyke blazes

Posted by Chris Brown on March 1, 2011 – 9:49 pm

It’s official, Miami CB DeMarcus Van Dyke was the fastest prospect at the NFL combine.

Van Dyke ran an official 4.28 40-time Tuesday. It’s the third fastest time at the combine since 2000. LSU’s Patrick Peterson had the next best time at 4.34 tied with Maryland RB Da’Rel Scott this year.

We bring up Van Dyke as a note because last month he told ProFootballTalk that the teams that had shown the most interest in him were the Bills and Cowboys. He’s forecast as a late round pick.

Spiller gets props at combine

Miami CB DeMarcus Van Dyke was asked who his toughest cover assignment was in his college career. His answer was a Buffalo Bill.

“I would say it was C.J. Spiller,” said Van Dyke. “He was tough off the line, but I haven’t talked to them here at the combine.”

Van Dyke, who said his fastest 40 time was a 4.3 flat, is expected to post a good 40 time here at the combine. He got familiar with Buffalo’s coaching staff at the Senior Bowl playing for the South Team.

“They were my coaching staff and I liked them,” he said. “They were pretty good.”

He models his game after Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie because he’s a tall corner like him at 6’1″. He’s forecast as a late round pick.
