It’ll be about decision making

Posted by Chris Brown on July 14, 2011 – 8:38 am

As we covered on the home page of today there is a lot more for the Bills coaching staff to learn about Levi Brown as he enters year 2 with the club. But quarterbacks coach George Cortez believes the tools and the potential are there for Brown to have a lengthy career in the league.

“We have confidence in Levi and he just has to show the mental aspects of the game, which I think he’s pretty good at in terms of transferring it over to the field because he has the physical tools,” said Cortez.

Chan Gailey has always said the two most important traits of a quarterback are accuracy and decision making. Brown’s decision making sounds like it will go a long way in convincing Buffalo’s offensive staff he’s a capable NFL signal caller.

Where the coordinators will be

Posted by Chris Brown on August 13, 2010 – 3:10 pm

We all know that head coach Chan Gailey will be on the sideline at kickoff in tonight’s preseason opener, but which coordinators will be up in the booth and which will be on the sidelines?

Offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins will be upstairs to be Gailey’s eyes in the sky for the offense. Defensive coordinator George Edwards however, wants to be down on the sidelines.

Gailey will be calling the plays for the offense, which he will relay to quarterbacks coach George Cortez, who will radio the play into the quarterbacks.

Report: Bills at QB Skelton pro day

Posted by Chris Brown on March 10, 2010 – 1:28 pm

According to, the Bills were among the many teams on hand at Fordham’s pro day where QB prospect John Skelton performed.

The workout, which took place on Tuesday was reportedly attended by Bills QBs coach George Cortez. Skelton is a Texas native with a pro body (6’5″ 241) and an arm to match. Whether he can make the step up in competition is the big question.

Cortez is also a Texas native, not that it means anything, but it always helps to have an icebreaker in conversation.

Skelton is seen as a mid-round prospect. All indications were that Skelton threw the ball well and looked much better at his pro day than he did during the practice week at the East-West Shrine game in January.
