Guys who helped their cause

Posted by Chris Brown on September 1, 2016 – 11:59 pm

Bills head coach Rex Ryan said this week that the fourth preseason game is a chance for a guy to earn a spot on the roster. He thought a couple of players did that in Detroit.

“I’m not going to tell you who, but I feel like there are some guys who played well enough today to earn the right to be on this team.”

When asked for players who made a good case for themselves in the loss to the Lions, Ryan had a few players in mind.

“I think O’Leary stood out. Gronkowski  stood out. I thought Meeks played extremely well on defense. I like the new guy 50, Humber, he played well.”

Rex liked Gronkowski’s performance

Posted by Chris Brown on September 1, 2016 – 10:45 pm

Making an impression in the final preseason game can be make or break for players when it comes to a roster spot. FB Glenn Gronkowski’s performance may have made things difficult for head coach Rex Ryan when it comes to roster cutdown time this weekend.

“(Glenn) Gronkowski played really well,” said Ryan. “I’ve been impressed with him. That’s about the only bright spot. I’m sure there’s a few more. I was looking for some guys to make our football team. Just like this Gronkowski kid. It may be hard to keep him off our team now. We’ll see.”

Bills Gronk on how to stop Pats Gronk

Posted by Chris Brown on May 18, 2016 – 12:48 pm

Bills undrafted rookie FB Glenn Gronkowski has been asked a ton of questions over the years about his All-Pro brother Rob Gronkowski. There was one on the John Murphy Show this week that he had trouble answering about the Patriots tight end.

Gronkowski was asked how to stop his older brother from being the game changing tight end he is.

“I don’t know how to stop Rob,” said Glenn Gronkowski. “Rex Ryan told him on the phone he’s going to double team him on every play this year. I guess that’s how we’re going to stop him.”

That phone conversation took place after Ryan had successfully recruited Glenn Gronkowski as an undrafted free agent. He asked Glenn to put Rob on the phone and at that point and told him they were going to do everything they could to shut him down.

As much as the Patriots tight end is known as a partier, Gronk does put in a lot of time and effort according to his younger brother.

“He puts the work in to be the best,” said Glenn Gronkowski. “Of course a lot of people see him as a big partier. He’s definitely a hard worker. I see it first hand. Behind the scenes he’s doing a lot more than people think he is. He puts in the work and definitely deserves to be where he is.”

The younger Gronkowski thinks he has a good shot to make Buffalo’s 53-man roster. The Bills need a backup fullback with how run heavy their offense is, so Gronkowksi is hoping to make enough of an impact on special teams to stick.

“I think I can make the team,” he said. “Obviously that’s my goal. You’ve got to give it your all to reach your goal. So I think it’s a possibility especially on special teams. Maybe on special teams hopefully and work into a role and start learning my role from (Jerome)

Felton a little bit and see where it goes.”

Playing for Bills fine by baby Gronk

Posted by Chris Brown on February 25, 2016 – 11:35 am

Kansas State FB/H-back Glenn Gronkowski met the media here at the NFL Combine Thursday. After all the questions about his big brother in New England and whether he was on Rob Gronkowski’s party cruise (he wasn’t), Gronk got a chance to talk about making a name for himself and about his hometown team, the Bills.

“Obviously I want to come out here and do the best in everything,” Gronkowski said. “Hopefully make a team, hopefully help a team win and show what I can do and become my own player.”

As for the chance to play for the Bills, Gronkowski said he’d be all for it.

“That’d be awesome,” he said. “Growing up we were at all the Bills games cheering for them and all that. Yeah that’d be awesome to be there. Any team would be a dream come true, but that would be something special.” Combine coverage is presented by NAPA Auto Parts.
