2 teams interested in Olsen?

Posted by Chris Brown on March 3, 2010 – 12:21 pm

With the news that Chicago TE Greg Olsen could be on his way out of the Windy City by his own request via trade, there are already reports of two teams that are interested.

NBC in Chicago is reporting that the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots are two teams that are interested.

Ben Watson is an unrestricted free agent in New England and the Patriots are not expected to do much to bring him back. Arizona also does not have a top flight pass catcher at the TE position and veteran Anthony Becht is a free agent as well.

Bears TE on block

Posted by Chris Brown on March 3, 2010 – 9:22 am

Bears pass catching TE Greg Olsen is reportedly on the trade block.

That according to ESPNChicago. Olsen is apparently asking out knowing that Mike Martz’s offensive scheme is where pass catching tight ends go to die.

The Bears are reportedly interested in acquiring Brandon Manumaleuna, the blocking tight end in San Diego that’s set to become a free agent.

The report suspects that Olsen could return a second-round pick to the Bears. I’m not convinced, though I believe a third is possible.

With as restrictive as free agency is going to be this offseason under the uncapped rules, it wouldn’t surprise me if teams make more trades to get their roster the way they want it.

I don’t see Olsen as a player of interest for Buffalo. Shawn Nelson fills the same kind of role. Manumaleuna however, is a player that would make sense for the Bills.
