Delhomme to start for Browns

Posted by Chris Brown on December 10, 2010 – 12:49 pm

Colt McCoy practiced on a limited basis Friday, but veteran Jake Delhome will make his third straight start for the Browns as they face the Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium Sunday.

Browns head coach Eric Mangini said that based on how practice goes today (Friday) and how McCoy feels Saturday will determine whether or not McCoy can serve as the emergency third string QB against the Bills. McCoy has a high ankle sprain suffered three weeks ago.

Seneca Wallace will serve as the Browns’ backup quarterback.

Looking like Delhomme

Posted by Chris Brown on December 9, 2010 – 4:31 pm

With Colt McCoy not practicing again on Thursday it looks like Jake Delhomme will again be the starter for the Browns against the Bills on Sunday.

Delhomme has started each of the last two games, both victories, in place of McCoy who suffered a high ankle sprain. Bills head coach Chan Gailey hasn’t seen much of a difference in Cleveland’s offense with Delhomme or McCoy under center.

“Delhomme is more of a pocket guy whereas Colt’s more of a sprint-out, bootleg type guy, that’s the basic difference,” said Gailey. “The rest of it is the same.”

Browns starting QB up in air

Posted by Chris Brown on December 8, 2010 – 1:00 pm

Cleveland head coach Eric Mangini has had veteran Jake Delhomme start at quarterback the past two games while Colt McCoy has been trying to recover from a high ankle sprain suffered Nov. 21st against Jacksonville.

Mangini however, is not ruling McCoy out yet for this week’s game against the Bills.

“Colt worked more yesterday and that looked pretty positive so I’m hoping he’s going to be able to practice at some point this week,” said Mangini. “We’ll just have to see. Each week we get closer and he definitely made some strides from last week and where he is now.”

If McCoy cannot play this week, Delhomme would make his third straight start and fourth of the season.
