Texans roster move

Posted by Chris Brown on October 30, 2009 – 3:44 pm

The Houston Texans made a roster move prior to their game with the Bills.

They waived LB Jamie Winborn and signed DE Tim Jamison to their active roster.

Jamison, a rookie out of Michigan, was signed as an undrafted free agent by Houston in May. This is the second time this season that Jamison (6’3″ 270) has been called up from the team’s practice squad.

Bills in bit of holding pattern at OLB

Posted by Chris Brown on March 11, 2009 – 11:02 pm

With a host of FA LBs rolling through One Bills Drive the past few weeks Dick Jauron provided an update on just what they’re trying to add and whether they’ll continue to seek out solutions to bolster the position.

“We’ll keep looking,” Jauron said. “Again, we like that group. Coming back off the injured are John DiGiorgio, of course will be back and is doing really well. Marcus Buggs will be back also. And Alvin Bowen will be back, too. We like those guys and we’ll keep looking there, too. Obviously we liked the guys we’ve had in and visited. When they came through, we were very upfront with them. We told them we didn’t know that we’d do anything immediately. We clearly liked them, that’s why they were here. We liked what they did. We wanted them to get a feel for us and us to get a feel for them face-to-face, so that if down the line here we got back to them, they did know us and we could do something quickly if they wanted to and if we wanted to. So we’ll keep looking.”

Sounds as if the free agent visits by Jamie Winborn, Freddie Keiaho, Cato June and others were somewhat exploratory in nature instead of visits that were going to lead to an imminent signing.

FA LB Winborn visits Titans

Posted by Chris Brown on March 11, 2009 – 1:50 pm

One of Buffalo’s first free agent visitors in late February is still making the rounds.

FA LB Jamie Winborn visited with the Titans on Tuesday and is still apparently considering his options. That according to the Tennesseean. Buffalo still wants to address their strong side linebacker position.

Winborn maybe just needed the opportunity

Posted by Chris Brown on February 26, 2009 – 11:30 pm

With recently released Denver LB Jamie Winborn visiting One Bills Drive Thursday, I was interested to see that when given the chance to start (due to Boss Bailey injury) he had a career year and led the Broncos in tackles (117) and he played on the strong side where the Bills have a hole.

Plagued by injuries with his original club (SF) his first few years in the league and relegated to special teams duty for three other clubs (Jax., TB, Den) the past few years, Jamie Winborn finally got his chance to play a lot this past season with the Broncos and did not disappoint.

Granted the Denver defense was poor last season, but don’t blame Winborn. The guy led the team in tackles, with 14 more than D.J. Williams, and pass breakups. I’m wondering if this guy just needed a second chance at a starting role.

I like that he’s a veteran that’s seen an awful lot. He’s affordable and showed he can be productive. I think he’s also stout enough (230 lbs) to handle work on the strong side. And if he proves not to be the answer for the starting role, he’s not a waste on your roster due to his history of special teams production and experience.
