Mayo fined for hit in Bills game

Posted by Chris Brown on December 30, 2010 – 2:11 pm

New England LB Jerod Mayo delivered a couple of big shots in the game last week against the Bills. According to a Boston Herald report, he’s been fined by the league for one of them.

Presumably it’s the kill shot he tried to lay on Stevie Johnson that went helmet-to-helmet. Johnson was a defenseless receiver on the play, which was not flagged by the way. Mayo also had the hit on David Nelson which injured his rib and has made him a long shot to play in the season finale this Sunday against the Jets.

No word on the amount of the fine.

Pats top pick brings versatility

Posted by Chris Brown on November 4, 2008 – 2:37 pm

New England top pick Jerod Mayo has brought some much needed youth to the Patriots linebacking corps.

Sure Mike Vrabel has been versatile playing on the inside and outside as well as a tight end type option on offense for the Pats over the years, but Mayo has the kind of athleticism that makes him a good matchup on linebackers, certainly much better than 35-year old Tedy Bruschi.

Last Sunday night he was assigned to cover Dallas Clark, one of the more athletic receiving tight ends.

Mayo has also been very productive and is the team’s leading tackler.
