Browns take WR Gordon early

Posted by Chris Brown on July 12, 2012 – 12:37 pm

Former Baylor WR Josh Gordon was the most highly touted prospect in today’s (Thursday) NFL Supplemental draft, and Cleveland didn’t wait long to take him.

The order in which the picks stood in this year’s Supplemental Draft at the top were as follows Buffalo, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Miami. Cleveland chose to use a second-round pick on Gordon, a pick they have now forfeited in the 2013 NFL draft. The Browns need receiver help, but Gordon though physical gifted is raw and might not be able to contribute much this season.

The Browns likely saw parting with a two as palatable since they have a pair of third-round picks next spring. Gordon was forecast as a 3rd-5th round selection.

WR Gordon runs in 4.5s

Posted by Chris Brown on July 10, 2012 – 1:26 pm

According to Tony Pauline of TFY Draft Insider, NFL Supplemental draft prospect WR Josh Gordon did not run quite as fast as anticipated in his pro day Tuesday in Houston.

Here’s what Pauline had for a 40 time along with his height and weight and other measurables.

TonyPauline Results from Josh Gordon pro-day: 6031/224lbs…36″ vert, 10′-1″ broad..13 reps on bench…4.52/forty but pulled/hurt quad during the run..
Pauline also tweeted that Gordon may try to run some routes despite the pulled quad. A 4.52 was slower than publicized expectations. It seems doubtful that he’d be taken prior to the 4th round by any club. Gordon was also kicked off the Baylor team due to a positive marijuana test, but said he learned his lesson. The Bills were in attendance at the pro day workout.

Bills at WR pro day

Posted by Chris Brown on July 10, 2012 – 9:37 am

Baylor WR Josh Gordon, who is holding his pro day Tuesday (today) in Houston in anticipation of the NFL Supplemental draft on Thursday, will have some Bills scouts in attendance watching him. has confirmed that the Bills will be in attendance with scout Theo Young scheduled to attend. Young is a former Baylor coach, who was on the Bears staff when Gordon last played for Baylor in 2010. Young was the team’s defensive line coach. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bills College Scouting Director Chuck Cook or Assistant GM Doug Whaley were in attendance as well.

According to ESPN AFC East blogger James Walker, the Bills will be one of several teams in attendance at the pro day. Gordon has an intriguing physical skill set at 6’3″ 225 pounds. He’s expected to run in the low 4.4s.

Those are numbers that mirror those of Marcus Easley, both height, weight and 40 time, if Gordon can pull it off. The Bills do not have a defined answer at the outside receiver position opposite Stevie Johnson, though they have numerous candidates entering camp (Easley, Graham, Hagan, Jones) where one of the more heated competitions will ensue.

It’s forecast that one NFL club will sacrifice anywhere from a 2nd to a 4th round draft choice for Gordon on Thursday. Knowing Easley, who has a very similar skill set to Gordon went in round 4 I can’t see the Bills investing anything higher than a fourth round pick, and I believe that might even be a stretch.
