Green and Jones in dead heat

Posted by Chris Brown on April 8, 2011 – 6:14 am

Wide receiver prospects A.J. Green and Julio Jones are largely viewed as the top two pass catching talents in the 2011 NFL draft pool. As far as Bills fans are concerned either one would be a great fit judging by their voting.

After reviewing the Countdown to Draft Day, draft preview on wide receivers, Bills fans texted their vote to 64621 for who they thought was the best fit for the Bills at wideout. In a dead heat vote, Green and Jones both garnered 33% of the vote.

What was perhaps even more interesting was Kentucky’s Randall Cobb was next in the voting with just over 22% of the vote. The multi-faceted Cobb, who can run, catch and pass would be an interesting weapon for any NFL club. He’s forecast as a second-round pick.

Up next in our Draft Countdown position previews is the chock full of talent defensive end position up now. So take a look and then text your vote for which defensive end you see as the best fit for the Bills by following the texting instructions at the end of the video.

Julio Jones surgery Saturday

Posted by Chris Brown on March 2, 2011 – 3:26 pm

Alabama WR Julio Jones is going to have surgery on his foot this Saturday.

That according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen via his twitter account.

mortreport Julio Jones will have screw inserted in foot Saturday in Charlotte by noted specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, agent Jimmy Sexton confirms.

A fracture in Jones’ foot was discovered during his medical exam at the NFL combine, but he still ran a 4.39 40-time and had a ridiculous broad jump of better than 11 feet, the best at the combine. He’s forecast to be one of the top two receivers off the board along with Georgia’s A.J. Green.

Obviously this foot surgery could compromise that though he’s likely to be helped by how things turned out with 49ers WR Michael Crabtree, who had a foot problem and couldn’t perform at the combine only to be drafted 10th overall by San Francisco, and went on to lead all rookie receivers in receiving yards per game.

Jones stock to slip?

Posted by Chris Brown on March 1, 2011 – 10:39 am

With NFL Network’s Charley Casserly reporting that Alabama WR Julio Jones will need surgery for a fracture in his foot, there is question now as to whether or not he’ll be one of the top two receivers drafted come last April.

Jones had a great combine workout, which included a 4.39 40-time on that fractured foot. He’s widely believed to be a mid-first round pick and immediately after his workout some thought he had a chance to come off the board before Georgia’s A.J. Green. Now with eight weeks of rehab some wonder if his stock could suffer.
