Dolphins add another young, talented WR

Posted by johnmurphyshow on May 1, 2015 – 12:35 am

The Miami Dolphins added another talented piece to their wide receiving corps in the first round of the draft, to go along with their 2nd round pick last year.

Last year, it was LSU WR Jarvis Landry who came in the second round and caught 84 passes for Miami, 5 of them for touchdowns.

This year, the Dolphins used the 14th overall pick to grab Louisville WR DeVante Parker. He was the third wideout off the board this year. Parker only played six games for the Cardinals last year, but he’s got a nice combination of size, speed and athleticism.

After the first round ended, Bills GM Doug Whaley took notice of Parker’s selection by Miami and what it means in the AFC East.

“This division, we’re stacking up good players,” Whaley said. “We think we have some.  But we’re going to have to compete against them.”

After parting with Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, and Brandon Gibson, the Dolphins needed to add another pass catching target for Ryan Tannehill and they got a good one in Parker.

Peyton on Dolphins wish list

Posted by Chris Brown on January 23, 2012 – 2:48 pm

According to the Miami Herald the Miami Dolphins have Peyton Manning on their free agent wish list. Of course Manning would have to become a free agent first.

Many are speculating that Manning could be released outright thereby making him a free agent with a $28M roster bonus due on March 8th. If that proves to be the case sources are telling the Herald that Manning would be aggressively pursued by the Dolphins.

Dolphins sign LB Carpenter

Posted by Chris Brown on September 6, 2010 – 2:19 pm

The Dolphins are still tweaking their roster much like the Bills with the opener in Orchard Park just six days away.

Miami signed LB Bobby Carpenter and released LB Charlie Anderson.

Carpenter is his fifth NFL season and has seen action in 58 career games, including three starts, all with the Dallas Cowboys.  The 6-2, 249-pounder was the 18th overall selection of the Cowboys in the 2006 NFL Draft, which was overseen by former Cowboys and current Dolphins Executive VP of Football Operations Bill Parcells.

Carpenter spent the 2010 training camp with St. Louis Rams after being traded for tackle Alex Barron this past May.

Root for Pats over Dolphins this week

Posted by Chris Brown on November 21, 2008 – 3:04 pm

In case you’re a Bills fan wondering which division rival to root for this weekend, you want the Patriots to beat the Dolphins in Miami on Sunday.

It comes down to division record and what the Bills can still control themselves.

New England has a 2-2 division record, Miami has a 2-1 division record. You want the Dolphins to fall to 2-2 because with the opportunity to beat both teams when they face them a second time, the Bills can hand both New England and Miami their third division loss.

That would make everyone’s division record at best 3-3 like Buffalo’s, provided the Bills run the table in the division the rest of the way (seems far fetched right now I know).

But that’s it in a nutshell, so go Pats!

Bills road opponents winners at home

Posted by Chris Brown on November 4, 2008 – 5:11 pm

One more statistic I compiled as I assessed the remaining schedule for all of the AFC East teams was the combined home record of every division team’s remaining road opponents.

Surprisingly, New England’s road opponents have the worst home record at a combined 7-9. Buffalo is their best home record road opponent (3-1). Everyone else is .500 or worse.

Miami’s road opponents have a combined home record of 8-8 with the Bills and Jets the best (each 3-1 at home).

The Jets have road opponents with a combined home record of 10-8. That is obviously skewed by their road date at Tennessee where the Titans are 5-0.

Buffalo’s road opponents have the best combined home record of all the AFC East teams with a 10-7 record. That’s mainly thanks to the Jets (3-1), New England (3-1) and Denver (3-2) all above .500.

I don’t know how much weight that statistic might carry, but knowing the majority of Buffalo’s remaining road games are against teams with the best combined home record among the AFC East teams doesn’t make me feel good.
