Early look at conference standings

Posted by Chris Brown on October 24, 2016 – 11:16 am

The Bills loss Sunday to Miami allowed the Dolphins to pull within a game of them in the division standings of the AFC East. But perhaps even more important it was also a conference loss dropping Buffalo to 1-3 against AFC opponents.

While the Bills conference record is not good (only Cleveland is worse at 0-5), Buffalo is one of two AFC teams that has played four conference games or less (Jacksonville).

Furthermore there are seven other AFC clubs that have three conference losses like the Bills (Cincinnati, Indianapolis, San Diego among them) and the good news is Buffalo has more conference games in hand with eight still left on the schedule including their final seven games of the regular season.

We’re probably getting ahead of ourselves, but conference record is the second tiebreaker after head-to-head for two teams with the same won-loss record in pursuit of a Wild Card berth.

The Buffalo Bills are officially the last unbeaten team in the AFC.

With the Jets losing to Oakland and the Texans falling to the Saints, the Bills are all along atop the AFC at 3-0.
