OL adjusting to rotating QBs

Posted by Chris Brown on April 29, 2015 – 10:13 am

While the quarterback rotation gets rolling at veteran voluntary minicamp this week, there is an adjustment for the signal callers to get into a rhythm quickly with limited snaps. There is also an adjustment for the offensive linemen, who have four different voices to listen to after they’re down on the line of scrimmage.

“Snap count and cadence, that’s the hardest adjustment there,” said Eric Wood of the adjustment from one to the other. “They’re all kind of going to adjust to us, where they’re putting their hands, taking the snap and whatever. Just getting used to the snap counts will be something, but we’re all learning it together. At this point we’re all learning. It’s not like one quarterback is behind or the center is off.”

Whaley weighs in on state of Bills QB position

Posted by Chris Brown on March 25, 2015 – 1:42 pm

On today (Wednesday) we covered Rex Ryan’s planned approach in handling the team’s open quarterback competition come spring practices and training camp in the summer. Out at the league’s owner meetings in Arizona, GM Doug Whaley also weighed in on the state of the Bills QB position.

Whaley, while comfortable with where the position sits right now in terms of numbers, is not closing the door on upgrading the position further if the opportunity presents itself.

“We’re going to leave all options open. But right now, we are comfortable going in with a competitive situation with the four guys we have on the roster now,” said Whaley. “Again, we’ve always said we will leave no stone unturned because it is a quarterback-driven league. So until we have a definitive answer at that position, we’re going to keep searching. But we think with the added year of EJ [Manuel] and the competitiveness that Matt Cassel is going to bring in and then Tyrod Taylor and then Jeff Tuel, I think with those four guys somebody is going to rise to the top.”

No lead pony in QB race

Posted by Chris Brown on June 2, 2010 – 1:59 pm

In the wide open quarterback competition for the Bills, head coach Chan Gailey provided an answer when asked if he saw any of the candidates establish themselves as an early front runner.

“No, and if anyone did I wouldn’t tell you,” said Gailey.

Gailey said playing quarterback right now in helmets and shorts is the easy part. He believes a more accurate assessment can be made once the pads go on and there’s more live play in training camp.

So it’s likely that at this point, Gailey is assessing the physical skills of his quarterbacks more than anything with decision making under pressure coming more in the training camp setting.
