Taylor has good line for draft day trade in ’98

Posted by Chris Brown on February 24, 2009 – 7:57 pm

For those that don’t remember back in 1998 the Bills traded a 1st and 4th round pick to the Jaguars in exchange for QB Rob Johnson. With that 9th pick in the draft the Jaguars selected none other than Fred Taylor.

To see Taylor sign with the Bills would be rather ironic and it was apparent that someone in Buffalo’s front office mentioned that to him on his visit today. Taylor also had a good response, which he shared with the media.

“I’ve heard that a little bit. It was kind of funny,” said Taylor. “But I guess you could say as far as that trade was concerned I got somewhat of the better end on that.”

It’d be hard to argue with him. Though the Bills went 10-6 and 11-5 the next two years, Rob Johnson didn’t have much to do with it. Taylor went to the playoffs as well his first two years, which included an appearance in the AFC Championship game and he went to the playoffs again in 2005 and 2007. He also has had a productive 11-year career, while Rob Johnson has been out of the league since 2003.

Report: Fred Taylor to visit Bills

Posted by Chris Brown on February 21, 2009 – 9:21 pm

According to the Providence Journal, recently released RB Fred Taylor will be visiting with both the Bills and Patriots.

New England has a muddled RB situation and Buffalo head coach Dick Jauron has familiarity with Taylor when he was a defensive coordinator for the Jaguars. Taylor is 33.

You have to believe this is an insurance plan for the Bills at running back.

It would be ironic if Taylor signed with Buffalo since he was taken with by the Jaguars with the first-round pick the Bills traded to Jacksonville along with a fourth-round pick for Rob Johnson.
