Stefan Charles signs with Lions

Posted by Chris Brown on March 11, 2016 – 8:29 am

The Bills did not tender restricted free agent Stefan Charles prior to Wednesday’s deadline to retain his rights. The defensive tackle didn’t last long on the open market as the Detroit Lions signed him to a contract late Thursday.

The Lions announced the signing last night as Charles agreement is reportedly a one-year deal.

Charles was a rotational player for the Bills and primarily a run plugger.

Charles, Powell, Rambo now free agents

Posted by Chris Brown on March 9, 2016 – 4:03 pm

The Bills already informed restricted free agent TE MarQueis Gray that he wouldn’t be extended a qualifying offer by Buffalo. It’s likely DL Stefan Charles, LB Ty Powell and S Bacarri Rambo were extended the same courtesy by the Bills as all three have become unrestricted free agents.

Charles, Powell and Rambo were not tendered qualifying offers prior to the 4 pm deadline today (Wednesday) thereby making the three restricted free agent now unrestricted and available to sign with any of the other 31 teams in the NFL.

Even though Charles, Powell and Rambo are readily available to any team that might be interested, it’s possible that they could return to the Bills at a lesser amount than the low tender figure of $1.67M. However, if there is a contract offer made to any of them of any significance, Buffalo is not expected to compete for their services.

Buffalo also did not tender an offer to RB Cierre Wood, who was the Bills only exclusive rights free agent. He too is a free agent free to sign anywhere.

Battle tested wins building Bills’ will

Posted by Chris Brown on October 6, 2014 – 11:51 am

Buffalo’s two road wins haven’t been pretty, but in the end the Bills emerged victorious needing overtime in Week 1 and a 58-yard bomb from Dan Carpenter in Week 5 to beat a pair of NFC North opponents. As the players see it, the hard fought victories are strengthening their mental toughness.

“Just perseverance man,” said Stefan Charles. “We know what we’re trying to do this year. We have to keep our foot to the floor and keep balling. That’s how we did it and we came out victorious.”

“That’s something we realized the first game of the season against the Bears,” said Chris Gragg. “We had to win in overtime. We were actually down 14-0 Sunday. That just shows how hard this team works and how resilient we are. A lot of good things are in store for us.”

Pepper’s mantra for D-line

Posted by Chris Brown on August 17, 2014 – 9:47 am

Bills defensive line coach Pepper Johnson is very respected among his players. A 13-year NFL career that includes two Super Bowl rings, not to mention three more as an assistant coach, Johnson has the ear of his defensive line charges. His second unit in particular has been determined to not let there be a drop off in play when they go in for the starters this preseason. So far, so good.

“We’ve got real prestigious coaching, like Pepper Johnson, he stresses that to us every day,” said Stefan Charles who teamed with Jacquies Smith on the sack, fumble that Landon Cohen recovered and returned to the Steelers 16-yard line. “Have no fear and be out there as warriors, and that’s what we’re trying to do here.”

Charles, Cohen, Smith and Corbin Bryant have done a decent job through the preseason as the second wave of defensive linemen.

“The coach is giving us the opportunity to make plays so when they come around you gotta make them,” said Charles. “We’ve got a lot of freedom on the D-line, we just got to get after it.  That’s what we try to do.”
