Special Super Bowl Sunday for Wynn

Posted by johnmurphyshow on April 8, 2014 – 6:30 pm

The Bills new Defensive End has more than a Super Bowl ring on his finger to remember his appearance in the big game.

Jarius Wynn has a son who was born hours before Super Bowl XLV.

When he was a member of the Green Bay Packers, Wynn and his wife were having dinner in Dallas the night before the big game.

“That night, her water broke at a restaurant,” Wynn said Tuesday in an appearance on The John Murphy Show.  “I was like, are you OK? She wouldn’t tell me. And then we had to rush her to the hospital.”

Martavia Wynn game birth to a seven pound, four ounce baby boy early on the morning on February 6th, 2011 in Dallas.  Jarius says he barely had time to kiss his son before he had to rejoin the Packers at their game-day hotel.

“As soon as I left the hotel I went to meetings, everybody congratulated me,” Wynn said.  “They were saying it was a sign that we were going to win the game.”

His teammates were right.  The Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 in that game.  Operating on about 90-minutes of sleep, Wynn played on special teams and got in for three defensive snaps in Super Bowl XLV.

Wynn said Packer fans wanted him to make his baby boy’s middle name “Super,” or “Super Bowl.”

“That’s what people in Green Bay wanted me to call him, but it’s just Jarius Wynn, Jr.”

Bills on snow in Dallas

Posted by Chris Brown on February 4, 2011 – 11:26 am

The headlines for Super Bowl XLV this week have largely been about the weather with snow gripping the Dallas-Fort Worth region this week along with unseasonably cold temperatures. Apparently that snow is continuing even on Friday when it was not forecast and Bills players in Big ‘D’ are commenting about it.

Here are some twitter posts from Donald Jones and George Wilson.

George on what’s at stake

Posted by Chris Brown on February 4, 2011 – 7:02 am

Obviously there is a lot at stake for any team in the Super Bowl, but when there are two historic franchises in the big game, the game can take on an added dimension. That’s how Bills safety George Wilson sees it anyway as he broke down the Super Bowl matchup for between Green Bay and Pittsburgh with teammate Geoff Hangartner. Wilson also had an interesting look at what the outcome of the game would mean for Pittsburgh as a franchise and for Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers.

The Steelers are playing to add another dimension to their legacy as a franchise,” Wilson said. “This past decade everyone has talked about the Patriots and the success that they had with the three Super Bowls they won, but now if the Steelers win they’ll have an equal number of championships in that same amount of time. So there will be that discussion of where the Steelers of this decade rank against some of the other successful franchises. So they’re playing for a legacy in a sense.

“Rodgers has a bit of a what Steve Young was going through when he won his first Super Bowl, trying to get that monkey off his back, trying to put Joe Montana in his rearview mirror for Steve. And Aaron is trying put Brett Favre in his rearview mirror so they can start a new Packers legacy. So they have a lot to play for, there are a lot of storylines on their side too.”

George believes the Steelers will win the game.
