KC pass rusher changes things

Posted by Chris Brown on September 10, 2011 – 3:09 pm

Chiefs Pro Bowl pass rusher Tamba Hali had 14.5 sacks last season to lead the AFC. Guys like him change the preparation plan for opposing offensive play callers like Bills head coach Chan Gailey.

“You alter (the plan) for those guys like him that are special guys,” said Gailey. “You have to. You have to make sure that you have somebody around him or chipping him with a back or a tight end having some presence around him. Something like that. If you say that our tackles are going to go out there every snap and block him one-on-one, I wouldn’t ask anybody to do that even if I had an All-Pro at tackle.”

Hali had 1.5 sacks in last year’s matchup with Buffalo.

Bell motivated to show well

After officially being named the starting left tackle for the Bills for the third straight season, after a late preseason challenge from Andy Levitre, Demetrius Bell is determined to do right by the coaches that put their faith in him.

“It’s always a blessing when you’re starting in this league,” he said. “You never can take that away from somebody. Starting in this league is always a blessing. I take it with great responsibilities and I’m going to go out there and do my job.”

Bell’s job begins with a formidable task as he will be faced with protecting Ryan Fitzpatrick from premier pass rusher Tamba Hali. Hali had 1.5 sacks in the Chiefs’ overtime matchup with the Bills last season. He had 14.5 total last season en route to Pro Bowl recognition.
