Wheatley workload won’t be heavy

Posted by Chris Brown on October 1, 2011 – 9:39 am

Bills CB Terrence Wheatley is expected to be active Sunday at Cincinnati as the team will be without Terrence McGee and Aaron Williams, but what exactly will his workload be?

Head coach Chan Gailey and his staff have to balance the fact that Wheatley just arrived last week and is still getting up to speed with Buffalo’s scheme.

“We don’t want to give him a lot early on,” Gailey told “We give him as much as we feel he can handle in our opinion. Players always think they can handle more than you give them. That’s just a given. He’ll be fine if we can get him some work and keep him in the system for a couple of weeks. He just got here the week before so he didn’t really know our terminology. So we’re trying to do a great job of catching him up.”

Wheatley is likely to have a role on special teams and will be pressed into duty at cornerback if there’s an injury or two knowing Cincinnati doesn’t use spread sets as often as some other clubs.

Bills add CB to practice squad

Posted by Chris Brown on September 28, 2011 – 9:16 am

The Bills promoted CB Terrence Wheatley to the active roster from their practice squad Tuesday. Now they’ve filled their vacant roster practice squad spot with another cornerback.

Buffalo signed CB Brandon Bing to the practice squad. Bing (5’11” 177) was an undrafted rookie out of Rutgers that signed with Denver. He did not make their final roster. Bing is blessed with great physical ability with a 40-time in the high 4.3s to low 4.4s and a vertical leap of better than 38 inches at his pro day.

Aaron Williams update

Posted by Chris Brown on September 25, 2011 – 6:07 pm

It was reported by the Bills media relations staff as a chest injury as rookie CB Aaron Williams was taken off the field on a stretcher in the second half Sunday. Head coach Chan Gailey provided an update on the cornerback’s status.

“He’s getting tests right now,” said Gailey. “I don’t think it’s serious, serious. That’s a bad term but I don’t think it’s something that’s going to keep him from playing the rest of the year.”

If Williams is out for this coming week, Buffalo could have just four healthy cornerbacks on their roster in Florence, McKelvin, Corner and Justin Rogers. They have rookie Doyle Miller and veteran Terrence Wheatley on their practice squad.

Patriots injury update

Posted by Chris Brown on November 6, 2008 – 9:19 pm

It’s not looking good for Patriots RB LaMont Jordan (calf) to play this week. After participating on a limited basis Wednesday, he did not practice Thursday. RB Sammy Morris (knee) also has not practiced this week. BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Kevin Faulk are expected to shoulder the load in the running game for the Pats Sunday.

CB Lewis Sanders (hamstring) also did not practice for a second straight day and is not expected to be available. Neither is CB Terrence Wheatley (wrist) who did not practice again on Thursday.

Veteran CB Deltha O’Neal, who has not performed well, is expected to play LCB for the Pats Sunday.

Limited in practice for a second day in a row were DT Vince Wilfork (toe), CB Ellis Hobbs (shoulder), WR Matthew Slater (ankle) and LB Eric Alexander (hamstring).

After practicing on a limited basis Wednesday Randy Moss (foot) practiced fully on Thursday.

Patriots injury update

Posted by Chris Brown on November 5, 2008 – 9:37 pm

Not practicing for the Patriots on Wednesday was RB Sammy Morris (knee), CB Lewis Sanders (hamstring) and CB Terrence Wheatley (wrist).

Limited in practice are LB Eric Alexander (hamstring), CB Ellis Hobbs (shoulder), RB LaMont Jordan (calf), WR Randy Moss (foot), WR Matthew Slater (ankle) and NT Vince Wilfork (toe).

With all the nicked up cornerbacks on the roster, the Pats re-signed CB Jason Webster, who they had originally signed in the offseason. They put rookie LB Shawn Crable on I-R to make room for the former Bills defensive back, that was injured in Week 1 of the 2007 season and put on I-R.

Pats re-sign CB Jason Webster

Posted by Chris Brown on November 5, 2008 – 5:57 pm

With their left cornerback position a revolving door due to injury the Patriots signed former Bills cornerback Jason Webster for depth and to possibly play slot corner this week. Webster was originally signed by the Patriots this past offseason, but was released near the end of training camp.

The Patriots apparently liked what Webster offered in the slot and the Colts took advantage of New England’s slot corners (Jonathan Wilhite, Mike Richardson) this past Sunday night as Anthony Gonzalez chewed them up.

The Patriots had veteran Lewis Sanders start the season at LCB, but he lost the job to Deltha O’Neal who in turn lost it to rookie Terrence Wheatley. But last week Wheatley suffered a hand injury and might not be available this week. O’Neal is expected to start at LCB again if Wheatley can’t go for the Pats on Sunday.

To make room on the roster for Webster, the Patriots put LB Shawn Crable on I-R. He had been dealing with a shin injury.
